My 15-year-old daughter has been asking for a nose job.

Posted February 28, 2011 5:12 pm by Dr. Andrew Campbell in Rhinoplasty

Question: My 15-year-old daughter has been asking for a nose job. I; however, do not feel that it is appropriate for someone her age to have such a serious cosmetic procedure. What are the risks of a teen having this kind of surgery?

Answer: Well first of all I would have to make sure that your 15 year old has completely stopped growing and has fully matured physically.  If that is the case then the risks of a cosmetic rhinoplasty are the same in your 15-year-old daughter as they would be in you, yourself.  If she has not completed her growth phase then I would recommend postponing the rhinoplasty until this has happened, but overall the risks of a rhinoplasty in a teenage are the same as risks in adults.

I am not happy with the visible scars that I have from a previous otoplasty surgery.

Question: I am not happy with the visible scars that I have from a previous otoplasty surgery. What options are available to treat scars in this area?

Answer: I would have to examine your ears and to evaluate where your scars are but if they are behind the ear and they are simply too thick then possibly a scar revision of just an excision of this excess scar tissue and reclosure may be all that is necessary.  If the scars were placed on the outer part or the ear then it may be more difficult to make these scars less conspicuous.  Ultimately, a consultation is required so that I can examine your ears and develop a customized treatment option to maximize your results.

In all pictures that I am in I have a double chin.

Question: In all pictures that I am in I have a double chin. Can a necklift get rid of the rolling around the neck and chin areas?

Answer: In most patients a necklift will get rid of the double chin; however, some patients have an excessive amount of fat under the chin that contributes to this problem and they would benefit from neck liposuction as well.  Some patients actually have excessive fat under the muscle that is under the chin and this would require a more sophisticated approach to give them a really nice neck line.  Ultimately, having a consultation with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon will allow the surgeon to examine the area and determine the best option for the patient’s particular anatomy.

I have a neck that looks thick but I am not a fat person.

Question: I have a neck that looks thick but I am not a fat person. I would like to have liposuction done on my neck. Does this result in any bruising of the neck and is there any pain afterwards?

Answer: Most patients have very little, if any, bruising from neck liposuction but it certainly can happen so I always recommend that patients be prepared to have some visible bruising.  Otherwise, there is very minimal discomfort involved with the procedure, but I do ask that patients wear a sling for the first 24 hours after the procedure and then to wear the sling as much as possible during the first week to try to redistribute the skin and try to minimize swelling in the area.  Overall, patients typically look quite good the next day and many patients will actually return to work the following day knowing that when they get home from work they need to reapply the sling and wear it overnight.  Ultimately, I see patients back a week after the liposuction procedure to make sure that things are healing as expected and then I check them 2 months afterwards to assure that we got the result that we desired.

How long after my facelift will I be able to start wearing makeup again?

Posted February 27, 2011 4:41 pm by Dr. Andrew Campbell in Facelift

Question: How long after my facelift will I be able to start wearing makeup again?

Answer:  As long as we did not perform any sort of laser skin resurfacing you can actually wear makeup the day after a facelift if you desire.  I just recommend that you not place makeup over the areas of the incisions, but if there is any mild bruising you can certainly cover this up with cover makeup immediately.  Once the sutures are removed in 7 days you can go ahead and actually cover the incisions with makeup as well if you desire.
