I am considering a chin implant procedure, but I would like to know what the chin implant is composed of, and how likely is it that my body will reject the implant?

Question: I am a 25-year-old man with what I consider to be a very weak facial profile. I am considering a chin implant procedure, but I would like to know what the chin implant is composed of, and how likely is it that my body will reject the implant?

Answer: The chin implants that I currently use are made of firm or hard silicone.  They are quite flexible and will contour against the bone of the chin and, due to the fact that they are silicone, there is literally no chance that your body would reject the implant.

I have virtually no chin and would like a chin implant. About how long is the recovery time after surgery?

Question: I have virtually no chin and would like a chin implant. About how long is the recovery time after surgery?

Answer: Recovery from a chin implant is extremely minimal and, in fact, many patients will go to work the next day as long as they do not mind a small amount of swelling in the chin, the possibility of some mild bruising, and a suture underneath the chin.  The suture is removed in about a week and all of the swelling subsides within the few couple of months.  The chin never looks so swollen as to appear strange in the far majority of circumstances.

What procedure would be best to cure my jowl area and how long would it take?

Question: What procedure would be best to cure my jowl area and how long would it take?

Answer: It really depends on how severe your jowling is as to what procedure would be best, but I essentially can provide three distinctly different services to patients to improve upon their jowls.  One being a nonsurgical alternative called Ultherapy, which uses focused ultrasound to tighten and lift.  It is going to be best used for patients with very early signs of aging and relatively small jowling.  A second option would be a procedure performed in an office setting that we call a mini lift, which is a form of a SMAS facelift through limited incisions in and around the ears.  This does a wonderful job of lifting even significant jowling.  For those that desire a more sophisticated and longer lasting approach, an extended SMAS deep plane facelift will do a wonderful job in lifting the jowls but also provides amazing rejuvenation in the upper neck area below the chin.  Ultimately, it depends on the patient’s particular anatomy and desires as to which procedure would be best for them.

What types of facial surgeries would give me a fuller face and more youthful look?

Question: After my gastric bypass surgery, I lost a significant amount of weight. My face looks very empty and my skin is very loose. What types of facial surgeries would give me a fuller face and more youthful look?

Answer: Patients who have undergone gastric bypass surgery and significant weight loss still benefit from surgical procedures that are very similar to those who require rejuvenation surgery.  In essence, we are going to provide elevation to loose and sagging tissue and we will also volumize the face with fat grafting and/or facial implants.  Just as in rejuvenation surgeries, these need to be highly customized so that we create a very natural look and yet restore the patient’s appearance.

I’ve used topical lip plumper’s and I love the result but the look doesn’t last for long. Can I get the same look with injectable fillers?

Question: I’ve used topical lip plumper’s and I love the result but the look doesn’t last for long. Can I get the same look with injectable fillers?

Answer: You can definitely get the same look as lip plumpers by using injectable fillers, and the results will last somewhere around six to nine months in most individuals.  I would highly suggest seeing an experienced injector since a poor injection technique can lead to a lip that looks unnatural.
