Can a neck lift help my very saggy neck?

Posted July 29, 2012 2:17 pm by Dr. Andrew Campbell in Mini Facelift,Neck Lift

Question:
I’m 39 but I feel like my neck is very saggy prematurely and that this really ages me. The sag started a few years ago when I lost about 40 lbs. Even though I feel pretty young for this, could a neck lift help?

Answer:
I have treated many patients in their 30s with a neck lift or mini lift and several of them had had a significant amount of weight loss in the past contributing to their laxity.  This is a procedure that is performed in the office setting using strictly local anesthetic.  The scars are extremely well hidden in and around the eyes.  It is very effective at completely rejuvenating this area and at your young age should last an extremely long time.

Question: I’m 45 and I’ve lost quite a significant amount of weight over the past year. I bring these two things up because my face has begun to look very aged and saggy. I’d like a facelift, but given my age I’m wondering if a mini facelift could be sufficient.

Answer: I would have to personally evaluate your particular anatomy to determine whether or not you would be a better candidate for a mini lift or a more advanced facelift.  If lifting your face from the corner of your jaw on each side gives you the result that you desire then you may be a very good candidate for a mini lift.  If you still have a significant amount of fullness under the chin despite the elevation on each side then you may desire a more sophisticated combination approach and this is where the art of rejuvenation really comes into play as I customize the procedures for each individual’s facial features.

How much improvement can I expect from a mini facelift vs. a traditional facelift?

Question: How much improvement can I expect from a mini facelift vs. a traditional facelift?

Answer: It really depends on what type of traditional facelift you are talking about since the mini lift that I perform in my office is very similar to what most surgeons would consider their traditional facelift technique in that it is a SMAS imbrication facelift.  I simply perform this under local anesthesia in the office since I have a much more sophisticated technique called an extended SMAS deep plane facelift that I perform in the operating room setting.

I would like to get blepharoplasty and a mini facelift.

Posted April 19, 2012 3:38 pm by Dr. Andrew Campbell in Blepharoplasty,Mini Facelift

Question: I would like to get blepharoplasty and a mini facelift. Can I do them at the same time or should I do one before the other?

Answer: A blepharoplasty can easily be performed at the same time as a mini lift and, in fact, it is very common for me to perform eyelid surgery in conjunction with mini lift procedures.  The eyelid sutures are typically taken out in three to four days while the mini lift sutures are taken out in six or seven days.  Most patients look quite good after that first week and are ready to return to nonstrenuous activities.

I’ve heard ultherapy can be used on the forehead and brows.

Question: I’ve heard ultherapy can be used on the forehead and brows. Can it be used on other areas of the body and not just the face?

Answer: The Ultherapy device is FDA approved for full face treatments, but it certainly can be used off the face in a non FDA-approved manner and is perfectly safe to do so.  We have treated upper arms, the chest, and even the knees with significant success.  The _____ or chest area seems to be particularly improved with the use of Ultherapy and combination laser treatments, such as the ProFractional Laser.  This can greatly improve the wrinkling and sunspots that occur in this area of the body.  There have even been patients who have gotten a bit of a breast lift from the Ultherapy treatment of the upper chest.
