Can fat being injected into my hands to plump them up and make them look younger?

Posted March 5, 2012 5:40 pm by Dr. Andrew Campbell in Injectable Fillers,Skincare

Question: I’ve had some fillers in my face and I love what they’ve done. However, I feel like my hands really give away my age. Can fat being injected into my hands to plump them up and make them look younger?

Answer: Fat can definitely be injected into hands and give them a more youthful appearance by hiding some of the unsightly veins and tendons that become more visible as we age.  This is not a horribly complicated procedure; however, due to the fact that I am a specialist in facial plastic surgery, I do not perform hand surgery, but I could certainly refer you to someone who is an expert at this.

Is microdermabrasion effective in treating acne scars?

Question: Is microdermabrasion effective in treating acne scars?

Answer: Overall, I would have to say that microdermabrasion is really not effective at treating acne scars, but here may be a slight illusion that the acne scarring looks better due to the fact that the overall appearance of the skin is slightly improved with microdermabrasion treatments. Acne scarring unfortunately is an extremely difficult problem to correct and my personal opinion is that very aggressive treatments are required to improve acne scarring significantly. I currently recommend a deep ProFractional laser treatment for acne scarring and this typically requires 3 treatments based at least a month apart for adequate improvement. I do discuss with my acne scarring patients the fact that we will never completely get rid of acne scarring, but if we can significantly improve the appearance of the acne scarring virtually all of these patients were quite happy and satisfied with these treatments.

What condition does microdermabrasion improve?

Question: What condition does microdermabrasion improve?

Answer: The most significant condition that microdermabrasion improves is the dull complexion of the skin. Essentially as we age, or due to sun damage, the dead layer of skin at the surface called the stratum corneum tends to hang on to the skin giving it a very dull, slightly rough appearance. Microdermabrasion takes off this dead, dull layer revealing the brighter, more youthful underlying skin that creates a better reflection of light off the surface. Microdermabrasion also allows skin care products to penetrate better and to be more effective. It further stimulates the skin with increased vascularity and can even improve some of the collagen of the skin and improve some of the very fine lines as well.
