BOTOX® Cosmetic

Customized BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are a great choice for anyone who would like dramatic results but do not want to undergo a surgical procedure. A safe and popular treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used at our Quintessa Medical Spa, just north of the Milwaukee area to help reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, and is approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, or botulinum toxin, is a natural, purified protein that is injected into muscles that cause wrinkles in the face, temporarily relaxing them. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments leave the overlying skin smooth and unwrinkled, while untreated facial muscles are unaffected, allowing normal facial expressions.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used at our medical spa, just north of the Milwaukee area to treat “frown lines” that appear between the eyes and eyebrows, “crow’s feet” surrounding the eyes, forehead wrinkles, and thick bands in the neck. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also successful in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

During treatment, extremely small needles and experienced injection techniques are used to provide an essentially painless experience. There is virtually no recovery time with BOTOX® Cosmetic, and our Milwaukee and Sheboygan area patients notice that their wrinkles begin to fade one to three days after treatment. Results can last from three to six months. However, additional BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are recommended every three to six months to maintain the improved appearance. For maximum skin rejuvenation, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be combined with soft tissue fillers, microdermabrasion and other skin resurfacing treatments available at Quintessa Medical Spa just north of the Milwaukee area.

Soft-tissue fillers (Restylane® and Radiesse™)

Gravity, sun exposure, and the repetition of normal facial muscle movements all contribute to the natural aging process. Lines and creases form in the skin as the underlying tissue breaks down. Soft-tissue fillers can create a smoother, more youthful appearance by filling in lines and creases with volume and fullness. These facial fillers are made of materials that naturally occur in the body and are administered by injections.

Facial fillers are used for the following purposes:

• Create smoother and more contoured smile lines
• Remove wrinkles at the corner of the mouth, and vertical lip lines
• Correct acne scars and facial defects
• Add volume to the cheeks
• Fill dark hollows under the eyes
• Enhance lip definition and volume
• Correct asymmetrical facial features

Restylane®

Restylane® gained FDA approval in December 2003, but has been in use since 1996. It is made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that exists in the body. When injected, it remains soft and pliable and takes on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue. Results appear immediately and last from six to nine months.

Facial filler treatments take a half an hour or less to complete, with almost no recovery time. Some minor discomfort may be experienced, such as a slight throbbing or stinging sensation at the injection site that usually disappears in a few days. Some patients may experience minor bruising, redness, or swelling.

Radiesse™

Radiesse™ (formally called Radiance™) is FDA approved and has been used extensively in clinical trials over the past seven years. It is made from a synthetic compound of calcium hydroxylapatite combined with an aqueous gel. When injected, it feels soft and natural and takes on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue. Effects are immediate and last one to two years with occasional touch-ups.

Combination Therapy: BOTOX® Cosmetic and Facial Fillers
